Brad thought it might be a good idea to place the Austria trip notes on the website. Hope they are helpful to those going. Austria trip notes Mittersill is 400 miles from Baumholder – so planning for 8 hours allows construction, staus, and bad weather. We decided to meet at chapel 1 at 7:30 a.m. and to leave at 8:00 a.m. sharp. We should get there in time for dinner Bring your balance owed in Euro. Pay to Brad before we leave. There is at ATM 5 mins. Away from the castle, but it would be best to bring plenty of Euro with you. The Castle provides linen (sheets and towels). It is my experience that no wash cloths are provided and I would bring all need toiletries. Your 220 hair dryers etc. should fit the Austrian plug without adaptors. From castle in the Pass Thun ski area 37.50 Euro for a 1 day pass, 70.00 Euro for a 2 day pass Half day passes available - if starting at 1300 the cost is 28 Euro, if starting at 1400 the cost is 24 Euro. Equipment rental 24 Euro. Ski/board school available, and almost required by Brad if you don’t already ski. Cost depends on number of students. (At meeting Sunday 4 adults and possibly 3 children need ski school 1 ski and 3 board) Also in Kitzbuehl (15 mins away) there are World Cup ski races going on. – You can still ski there, but also you may watch those races. Sledding Right outside castle is a sled hill which the children can enjoy. Also we have learned of a 1.5 or a 2.5 or a 14 Kilometer sled run. The Long run costs 5 Euro (probably a couple more for the rental of the sled) There is also horse drown sleigh rides available (5 people minimum) costing 10 -12 Euro. In Mittersill is a large indoor swim park – slides, pools, fountains etc. “Sound of Music” tour available in Salzburg (2 hours away).Times are 9:30 and 2:00
